Polystyrene takes thousands of years to decompose. But now a new biodegradable replacement made from mushroom fibres could be coming to the rescue. Developed by US firm Ecovative, it is now being considered by global retailing giant Ikea. As well as being eco-friendly it also forms itself within a mould to create perfectly shaped packaging shaped to each product. (Picture courtesy of Ecovative)
And what is also exciting and impressive is that Ecovative are embracing the principle of collaboration so central to sustainability – allowing you to grow your own innovative and biodegradable products using their ‘mushroom’ materials.
